Kenya contains some of the best known safari locations in Africa ... the Maasai Mara, Amboseli, Naivasha, Samburu ... plus some beautiful tropical beaches.
But in comparison with countries such as Tanzania, Zambia and Botswana, the general quality of safari in Kenya is really rather poor.
This is the home of the packaged safari, with most of the main parks being overpopulated with mass market lodges and fleets of minibuses.
But do not write Kenya off ... with careful planning wonderful trips can still be created. Some of the more obvious areas remain superb, notably parts of the Maasai Mara and there are some sensational lodges, especially in the more remote parts of the north and north coast regions.
